In April my friend Alexa came to visit for 3 weeks. Alexa is originally from Arizona, we first met 8 years ago when we were both volunteering in YWAM (Youth With A Mission) Las Vegas, where she is now the base director.
This was the first time that Alexa had been to the UK, and having spent all her life in the desert, she found Wales really cold, even thought we were having a warm spell at the time. I had booked for us to go to Scotland, and Alexa didn’t think she would survive but the weather was beautiful and we had an amazing time. We also visited London Bristol and Bath.
Alexa enjoyed everything about her holiday. Especially the food. She tried haggis and the local delicacies of faggots and peas and cockles in Neath market, although she drew the line at laverbread. She agreed that Joes was the best ice cream in the world.
During her visit Alexa had the opportunity to speak in Sardis about her experiences in YWAM Las Vegas and also enjoyed the hospitality of the church at the Good Friday breakfast.
One of the highlights of Alexa’s trip was driving over the mountain road to Brecon – she had never seen live sheep before. And another highlight was the trip to Temby with our wonderful Pastor Fortunato who kept plying us with food all day. Thank you Fort!
The reason I become a missionary in the first place, and met, not only Alexa but so many other amazing people, was thanks to Fortunato for introducing me to mission. My first experience was in Birmingham when I was 14 and from there I’ve got to go to Brazil, South Korea, Nepal, India and many more.
None of this would have been possible without Sardis sponsoring me and praying for me, thank you so much.
If anyone would like to know more about supporting or working with YWAM please ask me and if you would like to volunteer in YWAM Las Vegas Alexa would love to see you!
